to he left is picture taken of my storyboard it shows the 4th, 5th, and 6th, shot in my film opening story board. as you can see the 5th shot goes on 2 sections of the sheet as its a The use of CCTV refers to the social realism of the film but is also a enigma code for the audience. The gang members and the male character being watched by the CCTV can seem suspicious and get the audience wondering why this might be happening. It does explain the story a bit as the audience are now aware something criminal is going to happen, however this creates tension as they will be wondering what is going to happen. The high angle shot also makes it realistic as CCTV is generally watching from high angles. The use of diegectic sound also add to the realism as we can hear the footsteps of the actors, which makes it again tensed as that is the only sound, as it is late and nobody is around! Nobody being around again explains the sort of scenes that are going to come up.

Location ideas

This is a location inside the 6th form, it is one of the corridors which we thought would be a great way off adding the effect of CCTV into the short film opening. its a bright corridor, so lighting would not be a major issue. as well as the lighting another advantage of using this location to shoot a scene was the corners of the corridor had little gaps in which was a very easy place to set the camera up to look down onto the corridor emphasising the CCTV effect. there are a number of doors leading into different class rooms giving us a varied number of options when it comes to the our actor having to depart the corridor its self.

this is a shot we took of inside the class room, this is an idea we didn't use, and it was a shot where we was going to use the 360 degree shot and in the screen of the cuboard using the suns reflection shot the killer in the window. the location of the classroom was used just not to the SAM instance as this photo shown on the left. the classroom was very easy to film in, it fitted the story board as it was students staying after school to do some revision so it fitted very well, the lighting was very light, so the natural lighting came into positive effect.

this again is located on the 6th form grounds and is a shot of the front entrance, this is what we will use for our establishing shot, to set the scene of where the film opening Will be occurring. its a perfect place to start off the opening sequence.

This is another angle taken from an entrance of the 6th form college, it shows the main building as well as the Field in the distance which is where the killers will be plodding across to make their preparations. it is and open space an advantage of using this would be no distractions when filming from other students getting in the shot when, we don't need them to, it also gives the effect of loneliness as it seems deserted.

audience analysis

In the audience analysis i am going to be talking about the target audience things like age range gender, why it will appeal to them, then i will move onto how i would advertise this film if i was to do so. The age rang i will be aiming this film at would be the 16- 25 age range, i have chosen to aim it at this because i fit into category and a thriller is a film I'm interested in and most of my Friends are in this age range and i haven't found one of my Friends that don't enjoy a thriller. i think the older age wouldn't enjoy this film as much, then the opposite end off the scale at the younger children they wouldn't enjoy it as it may be to scary with all the masks and things like that Etc. The gender i have choose to aim my film at is the male audience. i have choose the males as my target audience as, i believe they would by moire interested in the film rather than the opposing sex, i believe stereotypically when i say this that most girls with an exception of a few prefer romcoms and things in the area rather than a thriller. I think it would appeal to this audience because i think that males in the age range of 16-25 would enjoy the suspense and mystery in the opening, with the added twist of still being quite high tempo atmosphere. There is a large variety of ways these days to advertise things not just films, through the act of convergence, but i would choose to advertise this film n social networking sites, such as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter. this would be my main source of advertising, because the Age range i would aim my film at spend a lot of time on these social networking sites so would make sense to use this to my advantage, things like magazines wouldn't be a great idea as younger people would rather watch TV, where i could advertise my film during breaks in programmes.

5 screen shots to represent our thriller film opening

this is a screen shot taken from the film, the strangers made in 2008 as a true story remake. i have chosen this shot as it shoes the two killers, normally in a thriller threres one but we used this as inspiration as we have three killers. also the victim doesn't know that the killers are behind in within killing distance just like in our film opening.

once again this screen shot has been taken from the film, The strangers, i choose to this screen shot as inspiration for my film one again because of the eeriness it creates and the mysterious character standing in the distance. from this screen shot we was able to come up with the idea of having the killers identity hidden through out the film.

I'm sorry but i cant remember where i found this screen shot, but the reasons i choose it, is because its a group of Friends, just like in our film so this is where some of the contribution to our films story line came from. as you can see its a typical group of teenage Friends who looked to be scared, creating the atmosphere of mystery and suspense, just like the mood we wished to create.

this is a screen shot taken from the new film scream 4, i choose this as a inspiratin for my film due to once again the victim not knowing the killer is in her presence, but mainly the costume of the killer. we used, this killers costume to help improvise our costume idea. we went for the typical screen orientated mask, with the casual teenage clothes to help add to the teenage thriller audience

This is a screen shot taken from a thriller film but i cant recall what it was, i used this screen shot though to represent my film because of the characters in the shot, are a bunch of Friends in a high school environment, this was a idea we looked highly upon, and we decided as a group to use his idea and stick a group of Friends within the school.

7 screen shots to represent the genre of thriller

8 Screen shots of films to
Represent the genre of thriller

To the left is a screen shot taken from the film, the strangers which is a remake made in 2008,
I choose to use this screen shot to represent my genre because in a thriller they mainly use low key lighting and this screen shot shows this.
In the background it does show the bright lights of the street lamps just shining onto the killer emphasising the thrilling and eary nature that this screen shot shows, along the ground fog is added to add effect. On top of the atmosphere that’s already there.
The costume of the killer is a usual thing to see in films under the genre of thriller, peoples identities are never fully known and you don’t always know about the killers like in strangers and also the TV series American psycho, where the guy in pampering himself and you know he is a killer, which is very un-stereotypical so you never actually know there true identity.

This again is a screen shot taken from the strangers; I have chosen this film to take another screen shot from because,
As you can see there is a victim who is a female and this is stereotypical in these types of films, normally it’s a male killer in these types of thrillers and although he’s behind his mask you can tell it’s a male killer and a female victim.
The lighting in this is coming from the lamp which is a usual house hold electrical item making it feel very natural and feels real.
The killer or stalker in the background I only just visible, as there is low-key lighting on him, adding suspense to the screen shot, suspense a usual factor and feeling that thrillers try to create.

This is the last screen shot I am going to be taking from the film The Strangers to represent the genre thriller. I have chosen this as my 3rd screen shot clearly because:
One, the only part the killer is visible adding a feeling of suspense typical in thrillers.
Two, the darkness around the killers face or mash is almost black emphasising the mask that the killer is wearing.
The antagonist in this shot is a female which is very un- stereotypical in thriller films. The above screen shots are showing a male killer so there obviously shows more than one killer, also very unusual in the genre of thriller.

This screen shot was taken from the 2010 film The Resident, I have chosen this for a number of reasons and the three main ones are shown below.
The setting where this screen shot has taken place is very natural and dark, the colour of the walls are a dark brown making the room feel dark and eary.
If you look closely in the background you can just see a man in the distance between the gaps in the door, there is just a sense of suspense and creepiness in the air.
The lighting in the room is very natural and it’s coming from the lamps on the right of the screen shot, and also in the old guy’s room from the window above the door. This isn’t adding much contribution to the light to be honest but its adding enough to show the man in the background which is the important part of this screen shot.
This is a screen shot from the film paranormal activity 2 which was released in 2010 as a follow on from its predecessor paranormal activity, I could have used a number of screen shots but I choose this one because:
The lighting isn’t normally like this its meant to be low-key lighting, but due to the night vision camera they are using to film this, this is a very unusual method of filming but I think its been pulled of very well and sticks to the genre, which is thriller.
In this the un-stereotypical killer is a female which I explained in previous screen shots this doesn’t fit the normal stereotypical male killer (antagonist) and the victim is male.
The 3rd point why I choose this is due to the scene, in a lot of thrillers the setting is in a person’s house and this is where most of the action takes place.

This is a screen shot taken from the upcoming film screen 4, this is a very important screen shot, because it represents the genre of thriller extremely well and the reason are shown in bullet points below:
First I will talk about sound, although it’s a screen shot and its impossible to hear things threw a picture, I can still determine what sounds are coming, I would say it’s a diagetic sound; the female victim will be scared and as a result be breathing very heavily, and the killer will be trying to stay as silent as possible.
This is a very untypical screen shot as it doesn’t have any low key lighting and it’s very bright.
The camera shot here is what I am going to be talking about last of all on this screen shot, as you can see it’s a two shot but slightly an over the shoulder shot, this is a very typical shot used in thrillers as it in a lot of films its always showing the killers somewhat stalking there victims and are always behind them with out there knowing.

This is a screen shot taken from the film District 9 I have chosen this for number of reason one in particular and it has been discussed below in bullet points:
The look of the guy in the screen shot makes him look like a psycho killer, but on the other hand he also looks like a victim. This is very much a trait in thriller films, adding to the over all mysteriousness.
The setting is imposable to see, but a setting in your imagination is easy to establish here as you can see he is dirty and bloody, and threes like a desert sort of colour blur in the background, this screen shot is not showing a clear scene which again adds a mysterious feel.
